TRANSFER ORIENTATION

Transfer Students attend a one-day orientation session, which begins with check-in at 7:30am and concludes around 5:00pm on that same day.

Prior to arriving at orientation, please be sure to complete each item on the Pre-Orientation Checklist. If you are unable to complete all items prior to your session, please update your session registration to attend orientation later in the summer.

Arrival

Check-in for your orientation session will begin at 7:30am in the Tate Student Center, which is located on the corner of Baxter Street and Lumpkin Street in Athens, GA. This check-in will take place on the third floor of the in the Atrium. Parking for check-in and for the duration of the orientation program will be in the Tate Student Center Parking Deck; students and families will receive a parking validation pass upon checking in.

Please keep in mind that students who arrive late will be unable to attend the day’s orientation session and will be asked to reschedule to a later session to fulfill the orientation requirement. All students must attend a New Student Orientation session; if you do not attend one prior to the start of classes, you must reapply for admission to UGA for a future term. If for some reason you experience an emergency the day of your session and will be unable to attend, please contact Meridith Balas at 706-870-3464.

Lodging

Families and guests that are looking for lodging options are encouraged to explore local Athens establishments or The Georgia Center’s UGA Hotel and Conference Center, which is located on campus

Guests

Parents, family members, and any individuals who are a part of a student’s support system, are welcome to attend New Student Orientation. During both first-year and transfer orientation sessions, there is a specific track for family members and supporters that focuses on the tools, resources, and information necessary to provide the best support to your new Georgia Bulldog. These sessions will include topics such as housing, financial aid, health resources, campus safety, academics, and many other facets of the student experience.

When the student registers for a session, they can add the name and email address of each guest as they do so. To add another guest, update the email address, or remove a guest, your student can login through the same portal and manually update the guest information there.

Schedule

Your New Student Orientation Session will begin at 7:30am on the first day and the program will conclude at 5:00pm. Please plan to be engaged in the orientation program for the duration of this time.

5 days prior to your session, you will be able to access your session schedule on the Welcome to UGA app for smartphones and tablets (alternate formats available upon request).

Holds

Prior to attending New Student Orientation, please be sure to clear the Verification of Lawful Presence and other holds on your student account. You can find holds that you need to clear on your Status Check page. As you complete the Pre-Orientation to-do list, please remember that failure to complete any of these tasks may prevent you from being able to register for classes at your chosen Orientation session.

Service Project

Finally, we would like to highlight a community service project sponsored by New Student Orientation! Paws for a Cause is a partnership with the Clarke County School District. To help provide the items for the children, kiosks will be set up during orientation sessions to collect donations.  If you are able to contribute to this cause, it would be greatly appreciated!  Please see our website for more information.

We look forward to meeting you soon!  If you have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to contact us at ugorient@uga.edu or 706-542-2112. For additional updates leading up to your session and for live updates during your session, follow us on Twitter and Instagram @UGAorientation!
